Artist Brian Swanson creates donation heart, painted sculpture as a follow up to his larger “Cellular Devotion” piece from the 2011 St. Jude’s “Affair of the Art”. This was a donational piece offered up in an auction setting.
This newer heart being from a scaled-down size that is approximately 18″ wide and painted with metallic acrylics to appear as a patchwork of rust, paints and rivets. Each section has its own characteristics and theme. Metal screw heads appear on the arterial ports and other areas appearing to hold together this alchemy of iron and steel. Also, some icon features from Brian’s Primitives Plankton pieces are mixed in as a continuation of previous works. These are almost hidden details that offer more likeness of our body’s cells, in their process of healing and nourishing us. A process of health and regeneration at the most basic level.
